Fight to Save Affirmative Action in Michigan

The fight is on in Michigan. Ward Connelly and his followers want to wipe out Affirmative Action in this state. Everyone who believes in the benefits of Affirmative Action needs to get involved to defeat Connelly's plans. But a hard part of this effort is informing the public of the facts. Much of what has been reported in the news has been incorrect. Hood Research' goal is to share the information and also educate of what the information means.

What is not widely known or understood is that the petition is still not on the ballot. That cannot occur until May 2006 at the earliest. Further the Michigan Court of Appeals did not have proper jurisdiction to order the Board of Canvassers to place the issue on the ballot. Additionally a question of constitutionality is raised on whether a court can place an issue on a ballot. There is also the fact that the petitions collected and delivered to the Michigan Secretary of State were insufficient in the requirements in order to be considered and accepted as valid.

Carl Williams, Hassan Aleem and Percy Harris, members of Hood Research, have filed suit too stop this initiative. While being members of Hood researchers they filed a response independently of the organization to protect the 501C3 status. They have challenged the issue on the points above. These challenges are currently in the Michigan Supreme Court under review. Your assistance is needed in order to prevail and prevent this proposal from reaching the ballot in November. Stopping this initiative now is a victory but also saves the millions that it will cost to fight this issue at the polls. Statistics show that this issue has a strong chance of prevailing if it reaches the ballot. Not doing all that can be done now to fight this provides a free opportunity for those persons who want to permanently end Affirmative Action.

What Can You Do

Carl, Percy and Hassan are to be congratulated for their heroic efforts. They did not have top law firms or millions of dollars or even famous organizations to help them with their suit. But they saw something that was wrong and their latest efforts began. Give them your support.
